2008 Meeples Choice Awards
Spielfrieks user group, of which I am now a member, has narrowed their choices for the Meeples Choice Award down to 25 selections. The original lists were quite extensive so while this may still look a bit unwieldy it’s certainly better than what came before.
The list is as follows:
- After the Flood
- Aquaretto
- Battlestar Galactica
- Chicago Express
- Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!
- Cosmic Encounter
- Diamonds Club
- Dominion
- Ghost Stories
- Le Havre
- Lost Cities: The Board Game
- Manoeuvre
- Metropolys
- Municipium
- Pandemic
- Planet Steam
- Powerboats
- Royal Palace
- Say Anything
- Snow Tails
- Space Alert
- Steel Driver
- Stone Age
- Tinners’ Trail
- Wealth of Nations
Members were to choose three of these and I chose: Battlestar Galactica, Pandemic and Le Havre. It was a tough choice between Le Havre (which I think is conceptually awesome but I have not played much of) and Cosmic Encounter (which I have played a fair amount of and think is solid but not exactly mind-blowing), on the other hand the other two were easy choices.
Still, I find it bothersome that games like Space Alert are included in this year’s list. If Space Alert is available in the US it has just become available and thus I have not yet had a chance to play it. Stone Age and Snow Tails are also games I have not played but think I would enjoy if I did. In a way, any vote for something could be considered a vote against everything else and I find it difficult voting against something I don’t know enough about. Perhaps voting systems like this should actually let you cast a certain number of negative votes? Probably against the spirit of it I suppose.
If you are interested, join Spielfrieks, and when that doesn’t work send them an e-mail at spielfrieks-owner@yahoogroups.com and simply ask for admission to the group.

Lists like these are neat, and could very well be helpful to me down the road, but I’m such a late-adopter these days there’s no way I could vote.
Or rather I could vote, but I would be casting votes without having played most of the list 🙂
